El Trompo

Cusmapa, Nicaragua

I met Dariel in Cusmapa, in front of an old house where I was staying. What caught my attention was his Toy. From a distance it looked like a piece of wood or old fruit and a string. He was wrapping the string around the wood and throwing it to the ground. As the Toy was spinning around, he lifted it from the ground and let it spin in the palm of his hand.It looked like an antiquated version of a spinning top.

In Nicaragua it is called "El Trompo"and they make it with a Machete from pieces of a Guayaba tree trunk.
